Senator Voinovich Profile
The Voinovich School was named for Ohio University alumnus George V. Voinovich, whose 44 years of public service included terms as Mayor of Cleveland, Governor of Ohio and U.S. Senator for Ohio. The late senator demonstrated an unfaltering commitment to improving the lives of Ohioans through government leadership and education. He always encouraged the Voinovich School to design and deliver practical solutions to “wickedly difficult problems,” to expand higher education public-private partnerships, and – most importantly – to educate, mentor and develop people from every sector and walk of life engaged in public service. Upon retirement, the Senator served as the Visiting Professor of Leadership and Public Affairs at the Voinovich School. The Senator and Mrs. Voinovich treasured their time on Ohio University’s scenic Athens campus just as much as their engagement with students and community partners.
